| Imagine that one of our mothers was considering keeping her child out of Verner, because she was homeless and embarrassed – through no fault of her own. But, she decided in the end to place her child at Verner, and has since been able to see a major change in her child's overall mood and energy. Before the Verner staff were able to teach him, he was sullen and down all of the time, never really interacting with any of the other children. Within a couple of weeks though, the boy emerged from his sadness, and became happy, playful, talkative and excited to be in his classroom each day! At this same time, a
Verner Family Advocate was able to get them into a shelter, help the mother
get a job, AND… eventually get them into their very own apartment!
Today, the two of them
are not only surviving their ordeal, but thriving!
